Tustin Chamber of Commerce Announces Officer of the Month
Megan Evans grew up in Mission Viejo and attended Trabuco Hills High School. She graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a BS in Psychology and a minor in Criminal Justice. After graduation Megan began to pursue a career in Law Enforcement. She was hired by Placentia Police Department as a Property and Evidence Technician and then as a Crime Scene Investigator. She joined Tustin Police Department in January 2008 as a Police Services Officer. Megan and her husband Adam are expecting their first child in December 2011.

On Wednesday, May 4, 2011, off-duty PSO Evans observed a suspicious female inside the Payless Shoe Store. As the subject was exiting, PSO Evans felt she may have been concealing something under her dress. PSO Evans watched as the subject went to a parked car and placed something in it. The subject then entered the nearby Rite Aid.
PSO Evans contacted Tustin Police Department and officers contacted the subject and her companion. Ultimately both subjects were arrested for thefts from Payless Shoes and Rite Aid. The stolen property from Payless Shoes was recovered in the subjects’ vehicle. The original subject PSO Evans saw at Payless Shoes was also arrested for possession of a controlled substance, with intent to sell. Further investigation revealed this subject had also committed a felony in Irvine the same day by impersonating her sister during a traffic stop. The Irvine officer who was lied to was unaware of this crime but was notified of it. The subject was also found to be a high priced escort who works in several major cities across the United States. On the primary subject’s cell phone, Tustin PD recovered numerous local contacts of subjects involved in illicit drug sales and prostitution.

PSO Evans’ outstanding observations and willingness to get involved while off-duty solved two separate felony thefts, one felony impersonation case, two felony drug sales cases and also gave Special Investigations a wealth of information to follow up on regarding local drug and prostitution cases.

It is with great pleasure to announce Police Services Officer Evans as the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Officer of the Month Award for May. Congratulations PSO Evans.
