August 2011
Tustin Chamber of Commerce Officer of the Month |
Sergeant Robert (Bob) Wright has been a resident of Tustin since an early age. He graduated from Foothill High School and went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University – Fullerton. Bob graduated from the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy and joined the Tustin Police Department as a patrol officer in 1990. He has also been a Field Training Officer as well as the Personnel Officer for the Professional Standards Division. Sergeant Wright has supervised the Canine Unit and is currently part of the Special Enforcement Detail.
The Special Enforcement Detail (SED) was created in 2006 as part of the Police Department’s new Area Command structure. The SED team is part of the South Area Command (SAC), consisting of one Sergeant and four Officers. The team is assigned to the highest crime area of the City for the purpose of reducing overall crime in the southwest, specifically targeting robbery, vehicle theft, vehicle burglary, residential and commercial burglary and vandalism.
For the past 2 ½ years, the Sergeant assigned to the team has been Bob Wright. Bob’s leadership has been the cornerstone to the team’s productivity. Bob and his team are, in large part, the reason there has been a drop in crime and calls for service in the South Area Command.
In addition to being the SED Sergeant, Bob has been called several times to assist with criminal investigations involving career criminals being conducted by Special Operations. These cases are a huge draw on our normal resources and occasionally require extra personnel. Without fail, Bob has always been up to the challenge and responded to assist, regardless of his schedule or the impact it had on his personal life. Often, Bob was tasked with supervision of the case while on scene.
Sergeant Wright has also been responsible for co-coordinating the Operation Crime Impact program throughout the City. This program targets probation and parole searches along with the service of arrest warrants in a specific geographical area. The program is logistically challenging and requires the coordination of several allied agencies such as probation, parole and specialized units from other local police departments.
For his hard work, determination and focused attention to the Special Enforcement Detail team’s mission, Sergeant Wright has been chosen as the recipient of the Chamber of Commerce Officer of the Month award for August 2011. Congratulations Sergeant Wright! |
