First International DNA Match for California Law Enforcement.

Efforts by the Tustin Police Department lead to the capture of a serial rapist who had left the United Stated to escape justice.
The suspect was apprehended in Austria after an INTERPOL DNA Hit. He was returned to the U.S. to face the evidence against him.

The OC Register reported on this when the Suspect was extradited back to the United States in August 27, 2010:
     "An Afghani man wanted in **** cases in Orange and San Diego counties
     arrived in Orange County on Friday evening after being
     extradited from Austria, following what is believed to be the first
     International DNA match for California law enforcement."

In May of 2010, Detective Ryan Coe received the ASIS Award of Merit in recognition of his significant contribution to the aims and objectives of the Tustin Police Department as well as the City of Tustin. This award was a result of the capture of this suspect.
